Bir Billing Adventure
In the Kangra area of Himachal Pradesh, India, the village of Bir (1400 meters) is well-known worldwide as the starting point for some of the world's best paragliding. Major competitive flying events are usually held in October or November at the take-off site at Billing, which is located 1000 meters higher and 14 kilometers up a hilly road from Bir. In 2015, a round of the Paragliding World Cup was held there. From here, skilled paragliders can reach Manali, Dharamshala, and Mandi.
The lower part of the hamlet is known as Tibetan Colony, and there are numerous Buddhist monasteries and institutes in and around Bir, some of which draw large numbers of foreign visitors for courses and retreats. Bir is also a significant hub for the Tibetan exile community.
